American Zinfandels

Great Zinfandels, mostly from CA, many $20 or less, just about all designed for immediate drinking (as in, don't celler them):

7 Zins - Graton, CA - good enough for a snowy afternoon at W Hotel bar.

Biale rich, fruit forward. Try Garnet.

Cigarzin from Cosentino Winery.

Crauford "Kilt Lifter" from Napa.

Graeser Winery, from a hidden-treasure, walk- and dog-friendly winery in Napa.

Haywood "Rocky Terrace" from Sonoma available at K&L Wines.

Howell Mountain Vineyards, Napa. Bear & Lion Old Vine Zinfandel. 87 pts WE.

Orin Swift "The Prisoner" - delicious mostly Zin blend.

Ridge. Start at around $20 for their "Three Valleys" Zin, which gets 93 points and rates as one of the "100 Best Buys of 2008" by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Troon, from Applegate Valley, Oregon.

Turley is the high-end gold standard.

You should do an Austrian wine post. I am a big fan of the very affordable Heinrich Red and other blaufrankisch and zweigelt wines.
